Compagnie Des Indes Guyana Diamond 14 Year – 43%
Stats: March 2003 distillate from Diamond Distillery in Guyana that aged 14 years and was bottled in France in August 2017 without chill filtration. This was bottled at 43% ABV and is numbered 341/368. The still used is not specified.
Conditions: Enjoyed neat in a Glencairn over the course of several sessions.
Nose: Vanilla, butterscotch, cedar, dusty attic, blueberry pancake
Mouth: Rich sweetness, Werthers Original, pipe tobacco, anise, lots of barrel spice and bitter tannin, Brandy-like fruitiness.
Final Thoughts: I can’t say for sure, but this feels like Versailles still to me. Sadly, the low proof stifles what could have been a tremendous rum. I imagine it would be vastly improved if released in the 48-50% range.
My Rating: 3/5
My Scale:
1 – I don’t want this in my mouth ever again
2 – Best used for mixing
3 – Decent sipper
4 – Very enjoyable
5 – I’m buying a back up bottle
