Transcontinental Rum Line Australia 2013 – 6 Year Old Rum – 48%

Stats: From the Beenleigh distillery, this is a 100% pot still rum made from fermented molasses that was distilled in 2013 and aged for four years in Australia followed by two years in Europe in ex-Cognac French oak barrels. Bottled at 48% ABV.

Nose: Shoe store, rubber raft, clean laundry, shoe polish, a floral (lavender?) note, vanilla, raison

Mouth: Thin. Mild heat. Vanilla, nutmeg, allspice, leather, walnuts, fig, medicinal/cough syrup, very long lingering plum or dried fruit

Final Thoughts: This review was written over the course of four sessions. I don’t feel it opened up to new flavors over the course of those tastings. The rubber raft note is probably the most dominant and makes it sort of reminiscent of a lighter Caroni. It’s slightly odd, somewhat approachable, and fairly decent. Reasonably priced for what it is, but I am just left wanting it to be more.

Rating: 3

My scale:
1 – I don’t want this in my mouth ever again
2 – Best used for mixing
3 – Decent sipper
4 – Very enjoyable
5 – I’m buying a back up bottle
