Duncan Taylor 1990 Guyana Enmore Versailles 26 Year – 54%

Duncan Taylor 1990 Guyana Enmore Versailles 26 Year – 54%

Stats: This rum was distilled at the defunct Enmore Estate in Guyana in 1990. It ran through the Versailles single retort wooden pot still before being continentally aged for 26 years in oak. 249 bottles were released by Duncan Taylor at 54% ABV with no color additives or chill filtering.

Source: Sample obtained in a trade.

Conditions: Enjoyed neat in a Glencairn over three sessions.

Nose: Rubber raft, moth balls, sour milk, cinnamon stick, pepper, vanilla, fruit chews, heat.

Mouth: Rubber raft baking in the hot sun, bitter sour milk, fresh leather, rich silky sweetness, bit of heat, menthol, some salinity, cigar, pool toy. Long lingering pepper and wood and a tingling sweetness and rubber.

Final Thoughts: The heavy rubber note on both nose and palate are reminiscent of Caroni (which I’m not a big fan of), but this also brings some more desirable flavors and less industrialness to the table. The conflicting sour and sweet notes mixed with heavy wood influence coalesce into something very unique but wouldn’t be an everyday sipper for me.

Rating: 3+/5

My Scale:
1 – I don’t want this in my mouth ever again
2 – Best used for mixing
3 – Decent sipper
4 – Very enjoyable
5 – I’m buying a back up bottle
